Both teams played defensively and with few clear cut chances during the ninety minutes, it was no surprise when the match went to extra time.

With one minute of extra time remaining, Croatia took the lead through a goal from substitute Ivan Klasnic . But just seconds before the final whistle the Turks managed to draw level with a strike from Semih Senturk to force a 1-1 draw and penalties.

Croatia missed three of their four, with Turkey scoring all three of their spot kicks to guarantee their place in the semi finals.

Along with Manchester City's Corluka, Croatia also featured Barclays Premier League players Niko Kranjcar of Portsmouth. Turkey meanwhile, starred Middlesbrough's Tuncay Sanli.

Turkey will face Germany in the semi final, which takes place on Wednesday 25th June.
