Dean Kiely has challenged West Bromwich Albion to emulate his achievements with Charlton Athletic.
The veteran goalkeeper was with the Addicks when they were promoted to the top-flight in 2000 and were instantly tipped to make a quick return to the second tier.
But they responded by finishing seventh in their first season back among the elite and only just missed out on a European spot.
decent start
Kiely has faith in Baggies manager Tony Mowbray to bring in the right kind of players to ensure Albion can be competitive in the top flight after a two-year absence.
Kiely said: "History suggests it will be tough in the Premier League, absolutely, but the comparison I make is when I went up with Charlton as champions eight years ago.
"The following season we finished seventh in the Premier League. That's what Charlton did - and I think West Brom are quite capable of doing something like that. Obviously, the start is so important. You need to have a decent start and get a foothold in the league, and then see what's what."
