City snapped up the Israel defender in a £5million deal after he started just 17 matches for the Blues and his new manager is confident the 26-year-old will shine.

"He's at an age where he is really ambitious. That's important for the club and he has come here with a point to prove," he said.

"He does not feel he had enough games at Chelsea and is looking forward to trying to establish himself here.

"He has good pedigree and he is certainly going to add to the quality we already have."

Hughes added: "We're always looking to bring in quality players if we can at the right price so that's a process that is ongoing.

"We're still looking at the options we have in the squad, things are starting to move in the right direction and come 17th August we'll be ready."
