Manager Tony Pulis has moved swiftly to bring in the England Under-21 international after seeing his side lose 3-1 at Bolton Wanderers in their first ever Barclays Premier League fixture.

The 23-year-old passed a medical at the Britannia Stadium on Monday and has now penned a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

He joins Dave Kitson, Seyi Olofinjana, Amdy Faye, Thomas Sorensen and Abdoulaye Faye as new signings for the Potters.

Sixth signing

"Andrew has considerable Premier League experience for a player of his age," chief executive Tony Scholes told the club's official website.

"He is our sixth signing of the summer and another valuable addition to Tony Pulis' squad."

Davies made 39 league starts for Middlesbrough with a further 14 appearances from the bench and also enjoyed successful loan spells at Queens Park Rangers and Derby County before switching to Southampton last October, initially originally on loan.

He made 25 appearances during his time at St Mary's and was named as Saints' Player of the Season in May despite making only 22 league appearances because of injury.

He was sidelined by a calf injury when he first signed for the south coast side on loan from Middlesbrough last October.

The move was made permanent during the January transfer window as Davies established himself as a key figure in the centre of defence with a string of impressive displays.

However he missed the last nine matches of the season after suffering a fractured cheekbone in a 2-2 draw at Blackpool.

He used the lay-off to have summer surgery to clean out a knee and an ankle which kept him out of Southampton's opening two fixtures of this season.
