Megson has yet to entirely win over the Bolton public since his appointment 12 months ago.

The former West Bromwich Albion manager claims he deserves greater credit for keeping the Trotters in the top flight last term. Bolton are currently struggling and have taken only eight points from nine matches this season ahead of the visit of Everton.

However, Megson has hailed Moyes' successful six-and-half-year reign at Goodison Park as inspiration for what can be achieved by keeping faith with one manager over the long term.

Megson said: "Everton are a huge football club and David started there in the usual way of taking over at a club which was not particularly doing brilliantly. David was a good manager at Preston - where he did an excellent job - and has carried that on at Everton.

"But it has taken him a while to get to where he is now. He's been there a long time and there has been steady progress throughout that time, which is the way it should be."
